Instagram Story Resizer
Instagram Stories fill the whole phone screen at a 9:16 ratio, and 1080×1920 is the recommended upload size. The catch is the interface: your profile info and the progress bars sit over the top of the image, and the reply box covers the bottom. This tool resizes to the exact dimensions and shows the safe zone so your text does not end up underneath the UI.

How it works
- 1
Add your image
The frame is preset to 1080 × 1920 pixels.
- 2
Position it
Drag to pan and use the zoom slider. Crop-to-fill trims overflow; fit-with-padding keeps everything visible.
- 3
Respect the safe zone
Keep text and key content away from the top and bottom, where profile info and reply UI overlap.
- 4
Download
Exports as JPG.
Common uses
- Businesses posting daily promotions or limited-time offers
- Creators preparing branded story templates in advance
- Event organizers sharing full-screen announcements and countdowns
- Resizing landscape photos or flyers so they fit the vertical format
- Social media managers scheduling stories through a planning tool
Good to know
- Keep text and logos out of the top ~14% and bottom ~20% of the frame — that is where Instagram's UI elements overlap your image.
- If your source image is not 9:16, decide between cropping to fill (loses edges) and fitting with padding (adds bars). This tool lets you preview both.
- Phone screens vary slightly in aspect ratio, so avoid placing anything critical at the exact edges of the frame.
- Export as JPEG for photos — Stories are viewed briefly and compressed heavily, so an enormous PNG buys you nothing.

Frequently asked questions
What size is an Instagram Story?
1080×1920 pixels at a 9:16 aspect ratio — the figure when we last verified in July 2026. That matches the full-screen portrait orientation of most phones.
Why is my story cropped differently on some phones?
Phone screens do not all share the same aspect ratio. Taller screens may show a bit more of your image and shorter ones a bit less, so Instagram crops or pads slightly per device. Keeping key content centered protects you on every screen.
Where should I avoid putting text in a story?
The top of the frame is covered by your username and the story progress bars, and the bottom is covered by the reply field. Roughly the top 14% and bottom 20% are unsafe for anything you need people to read.
Can I post a landscape photo to my story?
Yes, but Instagram will either shrink it into the middle of the screen or let it be pinch-zoomed awkwardly. Resizing it to 1080×1920 first — with cropping or a background fill you chose yourself — looks far more intentional.
Will Instagram compress my story image?
Yes, all uploads are recompressed. Uploading at exactly 1080×1920 from a sharp source is the best defense. This tool does the resize in your browser, so nothing is uploaded anywhere until you post it yourself.
