Discord Profile Picture Maker

Discord renders avatars as circles everywhere — the member list, chat messages, and the tiny voice-channel indicators. Uploading a 512×512 pixel square with your subject centered means the circular mask never chops off the interesting part of your art, photo, or logo.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add a photo

The output size is preset to 512 × 512 pixels, with a circular preview because that's how it displays.

  2. 2

    Frame your face

Drag to position and zoom until you're centered with a little headroom.

  3. 3

    Style it

Add a background color, blurred backdrop, padding or a border ring.

  4. 4

    Download

Or export several platform sizes at once as a ZIP.

Common uses

  • Crop artwork or a commissioned avatar to Discord's 512×512 size
  • Center a character's face so the circle crop doesn't cut it off
  • Prepare a server logo that stays legible at tiny sizes
  • Convert a screenshot or drawing into a clean square avatar

Good to know

  • Discord displays avatars as circles, so keep the subject centered — corner details vanish behind the mask.
  • Avatars shrink to about 40 px in chat and even smaller in voice channels; bold shapes and close crops survive, fine detail doesn't.
  • As of our last check (July 2026), 512×512 pixels is a safe upload size for Discord avatars.
  • PNG is the right format for illustrated or graphic avatars — it keeps hard edges crisp where JPEG would smear them.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a Discord profile picture?

512×512 pixels works well as of our last check (July 2026). Discord scales avatars down to many sizes across the app, so a sharp square at that resolution covers all of them.

Why does my avatar look cut off in Discord?

Discord masks every avatar into a circle, which removes the corners of your square image. Zoom and reposition so the subject sits in the middle before exporting.

Should I use PNG or JPEG for a Discord avatar?

PNG for drawings, logos, and anything with sharp lines or flat colors; JPEG is fine for photographs. When in doubt, PNG — the file-size difference is irrelevant at 512 pixels.

Can I make an animated avatar with this tool?

No — this tool produces static images. Animated avatars require a GIF and, on Discord, a Nitro subscription.
